college apps

Sat Oct 27, 2007, 4:30 PM
  • Listening to: Roisin Murphy - Ramalama (Bang Bang)
  • Reading: Macroeconomics textbook
  • Drinking: Green Tea
So, I finally decided to stop procrastinating on my college apps (lolz gg), and while I read through some of the requirements for the schools I'm applying to (I've got a list of about 10 :\ just thinking about supplements pain me), I noticed that the deadline of my portfolio for one school is due December 1st.

...

lolz. and I thought that I would have all of winter break to whip up some stuff. guess I have to magically create 5-8 pieces by mid november. I REALLY wish that my art class in school would actually contribute to my portfolio; unfortunately, my teacher doesn't really teach (she just sits at her desk and yells at us), and she makes us use reference images for every single one of our projects. r u srs? the class is called freaking portfolio preparation; even you told use that we can't have pieces based off of reference images in our portfolio. that class is all fail.

and on top of that, I found out my SAT scores online thursday, and discovered that it's my lowest score out of all three times I've taken it (thankfully most of my schools are taking the highest individual section scores; I finally decided to register for the SAT IIs in order to kind of compensate for my sucky scores.)

oh college application process, you own me.

If you watch Anime or read Manga? Then compile your own list here!

LOLS I'm doing all that now too :/. Good times huh. What schools are you applying to anyway? Maybe we're applying to some of the same schools 8D. I've only really applied to one school so far, but I really need to get pieces ready. All the schools I talked to said I have the technical skill enough but that I need theme. :/. I have too short an attention span for themes what the hell.

LOL i haven't submitted a single app yet, nor have I asked for teacher recs.. well, I did email my Parsons professor yesterday about recs (I asked him during my summer course and he said he'd definitely write me one, but I'd have to email him specifics), and I've got one teacher from school who'll definitely write me recs, but there's also one academic teacher I was thinking about asking, but I figured I'd better let all those early decision kids get their letter recs first.

and wtf theme???? I was planning on using the majority of my studies I did at Parsons, and whip up some lame conceptual stuff before mid november (lolz I am not a conceptual person). I'm not applying to any design schools, though (well, maybe one, haven't decided); I'm applying to a bunch of studio art majors in liberal arts schools :] being the paranoid person that I am, I can't post my list of colleges on DA (in fear that my classmates will find out which ones I'm applying to and laugh at me :[) so I'll tell you over AIM.

yayaya. I mean, for you, you prolly wont have to worry as much about a theme, but I do have to say you might wanna make at least one coherent collection of clothes. With any sort of school that incorperates art or design in it, I know that they're looking for not only diversity, but also the ability to expand on a theme. Im sure you've already heard that (I hope you have?), but just out of curiousity, and we dont have to have this chat on devart, but have you shown your sketches, work, etc to like... any school representatives? As long as you talk to someone who knows what they're doing, they'll tell you it's important to have collectivness to work, especially when applying for portfolio-based scholarships.

I missed out on portfolio day :[ they were super dumb and scheduled it on the same day as the freaking SATs. WTF? I did take some art to Art Center in Pasadena one when while I was visiting to have them critique it (this was like two years ago), and they just told me that I can't have reference work and no digital stuff. I'm pretty set on the majority of my portfolio (I'm using a lot of stuff I did over at Parsons); I just need to do my non-study stuff.

erghhh I need a theme~
